BIG ASS, LITTLE ASS
The Top Ten Quotes from "Pumping Iron"

If you aren't someone who's stumbled across this site by accident the odds are pretty good that you're familiar with the 1975 bodybuilding documentary "Pumping Iron." And if you've made it to this, the second sentence of this article then I'd place even money on the fact that you might, under the right circumstances, admit to being just a little obsessed with the film.

PUMPING IRON FOR BEGINNERS

While not likely, it is possible that a few readers of this article will have never even heard of the film "Pumping Iron," much less seen it. So, for the uninitiated, a brief primer.

Filmed in 1975 by George Butler and based on the 1973 book of the same title (written by Charles Gaines with Butler supplying the photography), "Pumping Iron" chronicles a group of elite bodybuilders as they prepare to compete in the most prestigious competitions their sport has to offer.

Released in 1977 it became a launching pad to success in film and television for two of its stars, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno, and helped spark a worldwide interest in fitness that is still growing today.

I am. I would estimate that I've viewed it at least 50 times. The first was on public television where it would play periodically until the early 80's. I caught it every time. Then I obtained a poor copy of a copy from a friend with two VCR's and watched that tape until it whistled and hissed and the video looked like it was shot in a minor snowstorm.

Most recently I purchased an okay dub on ebay for around $20. And still to this day I consider the movie one of my guilty pleasures.

Why "guilty?" Because whenever I mention the film as one of my favorites to a non-bodybuilder I almost always get an awkward stare. One that either says, "Umm... What?" or "You're joking, right?" So I kept my love of "Pumping Iron" a secret to all but my closest confidants.

Until about a month ago.

It was then, while checking in on the Getbig message board that I discovered a thread in which people were quoting their favorite lines from "Pumping Iron!"

And now that I know I'm far from alone in my (near) obsession with the film I realized that there might actually be a few others out there who would be interested in seeing:
